Pezzimenti Nixon Optometrists has been a trusted name in eye care and an integral part of the Hawthorn community since 1981. Founded by local husband-and-wife team, Anne and Orlando Pezzimenti, the practice was built on the foundation of personalised, high-quality care.
Peter Nixon joined the team in 2013, bringing his expertise in children’s vision and behavioural optometry. He became a partner in 2014 and took ownership of the practice in 2017, ensuring the practice’s values of excellence and patient-centred care continued to thrive.
The practice continues to evolve with the latest advancements in eye care, offering specialised services and technology while maintaining its core focus on helping every patient reach their full potential.
We remain a key pillar in the community, where generations of families come for comprehensive, trusted eye care.
Our family-based, locally owned professionals offer a personalised and friendly approach to optometry.
We respect each other, communicate with care, and celebrate our successes as a team.
We build strong relationships based on trust and inclusion and ensure our patients always feel informed and understood.
We are flexible, adaptable, and accountable for ourselves and the work we produce, and always with an eye for detail.
We drive innovation through continual learning, creative problem-solving, and community collaboration to provide tailored, impactful eye care.
Peter Nixon is the owner and principal optometrist at Pezzimenti Nixon, bringing a wealth of experience and a deep passion for patient care. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Hons), a Bachelor of Optometry, and a Certificate of Ocular Therapeutics, Peter led the Children’s Services at the Australian College of Optometry. He has managed projects for disadvantaged primary school children and students at a specialised deaf school.
Outside of the practice, Peter enjoys the great outdoors, cycling, kayaking, hiking, swimming, and running (that is, when he can find the time around being a father to two young boys!)
For Peter, there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the impact improved vision has on a person’s life, and he is deeply committed to excellence in eye care.

Peter leads the training of all new optometrists and prioritises ongoing education through regular discussions, conferences, and courses. The dispensing team also actively engages in continued learning, with many holding Optical Dispensing Certificates. Every quarter, we dedicate half a day to professional development, gaining insights from industry experts to continually improve our skills.
Peter also loves to mentor the next generation! Here at Pezzimenti Nixon we regularly host students, and Peter often presents to schools and other health professionals about vision in learning and sport.
Peter volunteers annually as an optometrist in remote villages in Nepal, providing essential eye care services to those in need. His work with Rotary International has brought life-changing vision care to communities in the Himalayan Mountains.
Pezzimenti Nixon actively supports the local community by offering vision screenings for prep students at local schools and kindergartens. They also deliver educational presentations to schools and professionals such as pharmacists, GPs, and physiotherapists on the importance of eye health.
